Icemaker Problems (July 15, 2001): The biggest complaint is no ice! First check to see whether the wire arm is in the up position, bent, or broken. If it is stuck in the up position find the cause and lower it. If it is bent or broken make repairs. If the problem is small cubes, check for a clogged water supply line or a kinked line not allowing enough pressure. High freezer temperatures can also cause several problems and won't let the unit cycle properly. Check your owners manual for the proper temperature. Even self-defrosting freezers need to be cleaned and defrosted once in a while. It may be time to give your refrigerator freezer a good cleaning and defrosting. An icemaker typically has a life of about six to ten years and replacement is usually as cost effective as repair. Be sure to know the model number of your refrigerator when you go shopping for a new icemaker.
