How to Clean Your Gas Grill (May 7, 2001):

Does your gas grill look disgusting? Here is an easy way to clean it so it looks like new! Get some ammonia, black plastic (large garbage bag), some duct tape, and a good warm sunny day. Sit your grill out in the sun, must be in direct sun for most of the day. Open it and put a bowl with a cup of ammonia in the center of the grill. Close the lid and cover the grill (not legs) completely with the black plastic. Then tape and seal every seam. We want to keep all the heat and the vapors from the ammonia in the grill. You want a good hot ammonia sauna. Let it sit for 4 to 6 hours in the hot sun. Open it up and take your hose and clean it out. If your ceramic or volcanic rocks are crumbling, it’s time to replace them. The even shaped ceramic will give you a more even heat and not a lot of hot spots like the volcanic rocks do. If any of the other parts are worn out, it may be time to replace them. Now that you have it all clean it’s time to invite some friends over and have a good steak. Enjoy!

Do your grates and other parts in your oven have baked on pie etc. on them? Take all the parts you can out of your oven, put them in a black garbage bag, put a bowl with a cup of ammonia in the bag, seal it up, and sit it in the sun for 4 to 6 hours. Take them out and hose them off. Make oven cleaning easy!
